EARTHWALK MENTOR APPRENTICESHIP
3 days per week, Late August 2012–June 2013
Join a small group of apprentices (ages 18 and up) for this transformative experience deepening our connection with the Earth, one another, and ourselves. Build the skill set necessary to help foster an ecological connection in children and teens. This apprenticeship in nature-based education offers experience with students age 7-16 at the EarthWalk Village School, Teen Land Project, and/or EarthGirls and EarthScouts Afterschool Programs.
The EarthWalk Apprenticeship Program includes:
- Working alongside our lead mentors in the field observing and practicing the skills of cultural mentoring including: one-on-one and small group mentoring, storytelling and singing, leading nature awareness games, guiding group activities and transitions, practicing creative-corrective discipline and the art of questioning, building relationships, and finding and cultivating children’s passions.
- Personally and collectively practicing the Core Routines of nature connection: Sit Spot, Journaling, Sensory Awareness, Outdoor Living Skills (friction fire, tracking, basketry, wild edibles, bird language, etc.) and Giving Thanks.
- Monthly Skill Building Workshops with EarthWalk Mentors including Tracking, Edible and Medicinal Plant Use, Singing and Story Telling, Earth Oven Baking, Cooperative Games, Friction Fire, and more.
- Reflective Journaling and Portfolio Creation to articulate and document your experience. Receive written feedback from the program director on your questions, learning, and growth edges. Craft a portfolio that can be used to demonstrate field experience to schools and future employers.
Finances and Housing: All apprenticeships are customized depending upon the applicant experience and skill level. 2012-13 apprenticeship tuition costs will be out soon! We will work to help you find affordable nearby housing and supplemental employment to offset living expenses.
